- game awards are annoying -
Gamespot announced their game of the year today, but first we must know the nominees.

  • Burnout 3: Takedown (Xbox) - A great game, Jake and I played it for hours one night. Even having played it so much, I still want it. Thats saying a lot about this game. It is a racing game, but it is more about making others crash and causing damage than most racing games. It also won Xbox game of the year.

  • The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay (PC) - A video game based on a movie. This is something to avoid in general but I understand this one didn't suck. Doesn't suck doesn't mean game of the year...Gamespot is dumb on this one.

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2) - I was bored of Grand Theft Auto 3 when I played it and beat it a month before it came out over 2 years ago. Once again the masses of douches that have a PS2 pile on a game that is huge to the whole world. It won the PS2 game of the year, which wasn't really much competition at all.

  • Half-Life 2 (PC) - Great game, pretty, the bringer of Counter-strike source, and all around nice guy. Not really a fun game if you ask me, but others really love it. Maybe I was just into the CS:S thing to actually enjoy it. I would have nominated Doom3 over HL2. Eh.

  • Halo 2 (Xbox) - Now, Halo 2 is the much anticipated sequel to the game that everyone that has never played a First Person Shooter on a PC grew to love. Halo rocked, if you never went to a lan party before. Unfortunately the most that halo 2 has going for it was the hype. It was also nominated for most dissapointing game...go figure.

  • Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) - Hardest game of the year for sure. I played only a small bit of it in the entire day that we spent playing it. It was a very pretty game and was very hyped because of the heritage of this line. A fun game, but pretty run of the mill if you ask me.

  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (GameCube) - I am actually suprised to see that it won game of the year for gamecube. There were very few exciting games out for the GC this year. Its competition was Pikmin 2 a fun but eh game and metroid prime 2, which I didn't play, but I haven't heard much praise about. I wouldn't expect this one to win because I wouldn't even care to buy it with so many other good games out to play.

  • Rome: Total War (PC) - WTF that is all. All I know about this game is that the history channel is using it for battle re-enactments. Nobody else liked it. Unfortunately the history channelis not their prime demographic.

  • Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC) - A great game, lots of fun maps and gametypes to paly. I definitely liked it more than 2k3, perhaps because i purchased it and played it online, which was a super fun time.

  • World of Warcraft (PC) - A massively multiplayer game based in the world of Blizzard's Warcraft games. The greatest feature of this game was, the world. Much of the changes to the crappiness of MMORPGs(massively multiplayer online role-playing games) that this game made were done first by City of Heroes, which was the suck in its own way. But since blizzard is bigger and more people care, they give WOW the credit that COH deserves. Rick and I played this game for a week and in his words, "Less crappy than other games does not mean fun."

Of these games, I can't really say that I would know who to pick. I know who wouldn't get picked, but not who would win. I don't think I could possibly choose a single best game of the year. They all had their little crappinesses that make me not want to choose them. If I did, I would pick the game that I found most fun. That would actually go to Half-Life 2, not because of Half-Life 2 itself, but because of the rockin good time I'm having playing Counter-strike:source.

What game did gamespot the retard pick? WOW. They friggin picked a MMORPG as the game of the year, despite the fact that Halo 2 sold better, Burnout 3 was far more fun, Half-life 2, doom 3 and pretty well every other game for the pc has better graphics, GTA has the old people with fear of children demographics attention, and mmorpgs are about as entertaining as a rock.

Eh, I guess I can disagree with them this year. Last year I thought all their picks were right on, but this year they apparantly forgot to put on their not stupid hats.
